Eligibility

Freshmen

Category Condition

Students whose parents are not Koreans

¡Ø Taiwanese applicants with one parent of Taiwanese nationality is eligible.
¡Ø It is not eligible if the applicant and her parents changed their nationality from Korean to another country while the applicant was in or after high school.
¡Ø One who has finished all of elementary, middle and high school which is located in Korea or overseas.

Transfer Students

Transfer students should have the equivalent requirements for freshmen eligibility as well as the following.

  1. Junior Transfer Applicants - should satisfy at least one of the following three requirements :
    1. Regular 4-year University Graduate (or graduate expectant)
    2. One who has finished 2 or more years in a regular 4-year university and has achieved more than 60 credits.
    3. College graduate (or graduate expectant)
  2. Sophomore Transfer Applicants
    1. One who has finished more than 1 year in a regular 4-year university and has achieved more than 30 credits.

  • Documents with asterisks* must be translated and notarized in Korean and English, if it is in other languages.
  • Especially, Freshman and Transfer students’ documents ¨ç, ¨è-after authorized Korean or English translation, have to get çÐÞÀü¬ìã or signed the Apostille treaty at Korean embassy in your country.
  • If you cannot participate in the interview test due to your staying in overseas, ‘Study and Research Plan’ should be submitted by handwriting and the interview will be processed by phone call.
    1. Korean or other national Government Scholarship students will follow the regulation provided from the government.
    2. Applicants of arts and physical education: TOPIK Level 2(or higher), English score (TOEFL 523, CBT 193, iBT 70, MATE Speaking CE/Writing MM etc. or higher)
    3. Applicants who got the BA/MA degree in Korea, or who has a degree in Korean language, or who completed Korean language course KFL 4 at LinguaExpress of SMU will be exempted the submission of Korean language score.
  • Korean language course KFL 4 at Lingua Express at SMU will be exempted the standard of Korean language score.
    Admitted students who have registered and do not have any score of Korean language or English language must take the Language Proficiency Exam at the Sookmyung International Language Institute (www.lingua-express.com). If the result is below the average criteria, one has to go on a leave of absence and complete the language course in order to obtain the average standard mentioned above.
  • Admitted international students should obtain TOPIK Level 4 or higher to graduate from SMU.

  • Scholarship will be given to the foreign students who meet the qualifications by recommendation contents, extra curriculum activities, GPA, potential ability.
  • Amount of entrance fee and tuition will be given according to the standard of applying semester and major.
  • Accommodation fee and airfare, etc. could be additionally supported through the evaluation.
  • Entrance fee will be waived for the international students.
