Since Korea’s first Department of Child Welfare & Studies was established at Sookmyung Women’s University in 1972, it has been a mecca for child welfare education and studies as it continues to grow in creative productive influence for the realization of child welfare. The Division of Child Welfare & Studies runs three divisional major courses: Child Welfare, Childcare and Education, and Psychological Consultation for Children. The Division aims to produce experts in child welfare by imbuing them with related expertise and activating ability, and intensifying the educational courses of the three majors by emphasizing basic principles and techniques of general child welfare.
The education purpose of Division of Child Welfare & Studies is to cultivate the capable child professional manpower equipped with the basic ability, professional knowledge & technique, and warm heart, which are necessary for the activities in the various fields for the children.
The education goal of Child Welfare & Studies is to cultivate the professional womanpower who can contribute to the qualitative improvement of family life by systematic research and education of the interactions with ambient environment based on the family in the highly industrialized society. For this, the education goal has been established specifically as follow.
1. Cultivate the high-class talent who can realize the genuine child welfare based on the academic interest and understanding for children through the basic lectures related to the child studies, early childhood education, and social welfare.
2. Cultivate the child expert prepared with both theory and practice to root the right child welfare in the society as well as providing the child related services needed for the society by widening the general understanding on the child and learning the professional knowledge.
3. Drill the various knowledge and skills that can utilize the professionality of womanpower preparing for the informatization era of 21st century, and contribute to the welfare improvement of family life, local community, and the liveliness of human living culture.
