The Department of Physical Education was originally founded as Public Health Physical Education in 1962. It was then restructured in 1968 as the Athletic Department, and again in 1974 as the Department of Physical Education, a more appropriate name given its history and tradition in physical education. Nowadays, physical education is getting more attention and interest from modern society, and is now understood as an indispensable part of life. The department is training professional athletes and physical education teachers and equipping them with the knowledge of natural science so that these become future leaders and professionals who show their caring spirit through sports activities. Furthermore, the department shows continuous effort and interest in nurturing and producing innovative and independent global sports leaders based on humane educational ideology.
