To study in Korea for more than 90 days, you are required to apply for a D-2 student visa. You can obtain this visa at Korean consulates, usually within a short processing time. Once in Seoul, you can extend the student visa without the need to leave Korea.
To apply for a Student Visa (D-2), you will need to submit the following documents:
- Completed visa application form (available at http://www.hikorea.go.kr)
- Valid passport
- Certificate of Admission (Acceptance Letter) from Sookmyung Women's University
- Bank Statement (or Scholarship Certificate):
- Two color ID photos (3.5cm X 4.5cm)
- Visa Processing Fee:
Please note that the required application materials are subject to change without prior notice. We recommend checking the website of the Immigration Office (http://www.hikorea.go.kr) before applying for the visa.
Note 1
If you have been issued a C-3 visa (short-term permission for general purpose) instead of a D-2 visa, it is essential to change your visa status within 30 days after your arrival in Korea.
Note 2
There are two types of visas: single entry and multiple entry. If you plan to travel abroad during your exchange program at Sookmyung, we recommend applying for a multiple entry D-2 visa. If you do not request a multiple entry visa specifically, the embassy or consulate will issue you a single entry visa.
Note
For those interested in studying the Korean language, it is advisable to apply for the D-4 visa.
