Kim Jung-ja, who made headlines for appearing on “You Quiz on the Block” as the oldest Korean SAT taker for the 2024 school year, has achieved her life-long dream and become a student at Sookmyung Women’s University.

Kim Jung-ja will enter our university in 2024 as a social welfare major at the Future Education Institute. She will further receive a 1-year scholarship from Sookmyung to support her studies.

Kim Jung-ja became famous when she appeared on the show “You Quiz on the Block” as an older student passionate about her studies, attending continuous education school to learn several things, such as Korean alphabet and middle and high school courses, even in her 80s. Last year, she took the Korea’s College Scholastic Aptitude Test, and expressed her desire to attend Sookmyung Women’s University, where her granddaughter graduated from.

President Chang Yun-keum invited Kim Jung-ja to campus on Monday, January 22nd to offer warm encouragement and salutations.

President Chang met with Kim Jung-ja and directly presented her scholarship certificate and honorary student ID. Sookmyung also plans to systematically provide English education to help Kim Jung-ja speak in English with her grandchildren who live abroad.

At the meeting, Kim Jung-ja expressed her excitement about studying, saying, “I will keep studying until my health allows.”

She added, “I will study as hard as I can once I start school in March, but I don’t expect good grades because of my age. I may forget what I've learned, but I’ll work hard to stick around.”

Giving advice to other first-year students entering Sookmyung Women’s University this year, she said, “If you study hard in your major for your future career, your skills will quickly improve, just like my granddaughter.”
