Library

The center plays a crucial role in collecting, organizing, and storing knowledge information necessary for subject-related fields and academic research. It also facilitates information-sharing through networks with other universities and institutions. Moreover, the center gathers and develops data on world women writers, providing research support. With over 43,000 books and a vast multimedia collection, including academic journals, literature databases, photos, and videos, it serves as a valuable resource hub.

1938 Sookmyung Women's Special School was established and the Book Room was inaugurated.
1948 Sookmyung Women's College obtained a license and was renamed to the Auxiliary Library.
1955 Sookmyung Women's Special School was upgraded to a General University, and the official university library was inaugurated.
1961 The new 3-story library building (with a total floor space of 892 pyeong) was completed.
1984 The new library building construction, consisting of 1 floor underground and 6 stories on the ground (with a total area of approximately 3,568 pyeong) was successfully completed.
1988 The library computerization work was initiated.
1995 The entire library system was successfully constructed.
2000 The World Women's Cultural Center (WOWLIC) was officially opened.
2002 The Music Library was opened.
2005 The Integrated Electronic Library System was opened.
A new basement reading room (with a total floor space of 957 pyeong) was constructed.
The library renovation was completed.
2007 The Leadership Library and the Specialized Law Library were officially opened.
2008 A commemoration ceremony was held to mark the collection of one million books.
2009 The Lee Gyeongsun DICA Plaza was opened.
2013 The Next Generation Web-based Library System was upgraded
2015 The 5F, 6F and BF were renovated.
The Leadership Library closed down.

The library is closed on Sundays and official holidays. However, the opening/closing time may be adjusted if deemed necessary by the Library Director.

How to Use the Library
  • Access
    1. Each room in the library is open for use, and users are allowed to bring in their personal belongings.
    2. Upon entering the library, users are required to register their ID card (student ID or library card) at the entrance and exit system located at the main entrance. Failure to appropriately check out any library resource may result in usage restrictions.
  • Use of Printed Resources
    1. To borrow books, you can search for available materials in the Catalogs section on the library website, where you will find information about the book's status, request code, bookshelf number, and location. Once you locate the material on the bookshelf, you can borrow it at the Lending Library on the 1st floor or through the self-service book lending machines on the 1st and 3rd floors.

    The library provides a paid service that allows users to borrow separate volumes not available in its collection. This can be done by requesting the volumes from cooperative libraries or literary offering organizations, both domestically and internationally.

  • Issuance of Request for Reading at the Libraries of other Universities

    Students can visit other university libraries or organizations by presenting the 'Request for reading at other universities' form, available at our library, along with their student ID card.   • User Instruction
