The Sookmyung Women’s University Childcare Center celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, positioning itself as a safe place for children of members of the Sookmyung community.

The Sookmyung Childcare Center received its first authorization on Feb. 27, 2014, changing its name to the Sookmyung Women’s University Childcare Center on Sep. 1, 2016. On Mon, Feb. 26, nine students graduated from the center, with 121 students graduating since the center’s opening.

Around 50 children ranging from one year old to five years old are attending the center, split into the “honey” class, “star” class, “flower” class, “pine” class, and the “snow” class.

The center provides more than just childcare, offering children with a variety of activities to broaden the experiences that every child needs.

Since 2018, contributions have been made to the Yongsan Food Market every year. In 2019, the center collaborated with Seoul Design Governance and Yongsan Dragons on the “Hoya Toto” project to treat children who were victims of abuse. In addition, through the curriculum, campaigns related to environmental conversation, such as the trash separation campaign and a water preservation campaign were also carried out.

Jeong Hye-jin, whose first child graduated in 2016 and whose second child graduated this year, said, “I can entrust my children with peace of mind knowing only that they are in the care of Sookmyung University, which allows me to comfortably concentrate on my work. I hope that the childcare center continues to develop and grow to allow members of the Sookmyung community to put their worries to rest regarding raising children and they can devote themselves to their work and studies.”

Meanwhile, the center held its graduation ceremony on Feb. 26 to coincide with the center's 10th anniversary. Vice President Park Jong-seong, Director of General Affairs & Management Kim Yong-hwa, and Deputy Director of General Affairs & Management Song Il-geun congratulated on both the graduation and the 10th anniversary.

Vice President Park Jong-seong said, “I would like to congratulate the center on its 10th anniversary and express my appreciation to both the staff and the director of the center for guiding these children with love. The Sookmyung Women’s University Childcare Center will continue to do everything that it can to be an institution where parents can safely and reliably entrust their children for care.”

He added, “As our bright-eyed graduates continue their studies, we hope for their growth into outstanding members of society.”
