Lori L. Robinson, Deputy Commanding General of 2ID/ROK-US Combined Division, gives special lecture

On Tuesday, September 27, Sookmyung Women’s University invited Brigadier General Lori L. Robinson, who serves as the deputy commanding general for support of 2ID/ROK-US Combined Division, to give a special lecture to the ROTC (Reserve Officers＇ Training Corps) cadets of ROKA (Republic of Korea Army) and ROKAF (Republic of Korea Air Forces).
Brigadier General Robinson graduated from the United States Military Academy and has served as the commander of the U.S. 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, deputy director of air operations, planning, and intelligence operations at the U.S. Department of Defense, and assistant to the U.S. Army commander in Afghanistan, and has served as the Deputy Commanding General of 2ID/ROK-US Combined Division since February. She is a veteran officer who has served in conflict zones four times during her 28 years in the military, one in Iraq and three in Afghanistan.
In the special lecture titled
"The higher you go, the fewer women there are, so you need a good role model to see and follow," Brigadier General Robinson said, emphasizing that "it would be helpful to find a mentor who treats me as an equal soldier and not based on gender, so I can share my thoughts and communicate."
Brigadier General Robinson explained, "If you try to be judged on your abilities as a soldier and not as a woman, and have a selfless attitude of sacrificing for your country, you will naturally have good evaluations and leadership."
Brigadier General Robinson, who said her husband is also a soldier who retired two years ago, said, "There may be personal sacrifices during your military career, such as having to move 16 times and being separated from my family," but "there are positive aspects such as always being able to gain new experiences like communicating with service members from 38 countries and forming a global network during my services at NATO."
Brigadier General Robinson, who said, "I didn＇t think about it when I was going through a difficult time as a cadet, but I became a general after doing my best every moment for 20 to 30 years," did not forget her warm advice to cadets who need to combine study and training, saying, "If you enjoy this moment and strive for national security, you will become the best leaders and end up in surprising positions later."
More than 50 cadets from the ROTC who attended the lecture gave their ears to Brigadier General Robinson, a woman in the military who excels in leadership. After listening to the lecture, Su-yeon Bae (61st class of the ROKA ROTC) said, "I was worried about what kind of mindset I should have when serving in the military, but I was impressed by the words, ＇Focus on abilities, not gender,＇ and I think I will be able to conquer my challenges in the military as an officer in the future."

Also present at the special lecture was Colonel Han-ok Moon, who is serving as the chief of staff of 2ID/ROK-US Combined Division, along with Brigadier General Robinson. Colonel Han-ok Moon graduated from the Department of Political Science and International Studies at Sookmyung Women’s University and has served as CFC strategic analysis officer, commander of the 35th Division Recruit Education Battalion, commander of the 26th Education Regiment of the Army Training Center, and has been serving as the chief of staff of 2ID/ROK-US Combined Division since the end of last year, assisting Deputy Commanding General Robinson.
After the special lecture, the 2ID/ROK-US Combined Division visiting group met with Chair Professor Sun-young Kang, the first female major general in the ROKA and a chair professor at Sookmyung Women’s University, and toured the facilities of the ROTC. Afterwards, she had a brunch tea time with President Yunkeum Chang and had a conversation about the history of Sookmyung Women’s University and the philosophy of women＇s education.
