Prof. Hyung-jin Lee elected as the 26th president of the Korea Comparative Literature Association

Professor Hyung-jin Lee of the School of English at Sookmyung Women’s University was elected as the 26th president of the Korea Comparative Literature Association. The term of the new president is two years from January 2022.


 

Founded in May 1959, the Korea Comparative Literature Association with 63 years of tradition is a society with the purpose of revitalizing research and academic exchange in comparative literature, an interdisciplinary field of convergence research. It is a representative academic organization for comparative literature in East Asia that hosted the International Comparative Literature Association (ICLA) World Conference in Seoul in 2010, which is a conference also known as the “Literary Olympics” held every three years. Since this year, the society has also been holding the “Nobel Prize Symposium” of the “Sweden-Korea Nobel Memorial Program” in collaboration with the Swedish Embassy in Korea.

 

Professor Hyung-jin Lee received his master’s and doctorate in comparative literature from the State University of New York (Binghamton) and Pennsylvania State University in the United States, and lectured at Rice University. He has served as the general secretary, editor-in-chief, and vice-president of the Korea Comparative Literature Association, as the director of Sookmyung Women’s University’s Research Institute for English Language and Cultural Studies, and as the dean of the Office of External Affairs & Communication.
