On September 15 (Wed), Sookmyung Women’s University was officially assigned to conduct the ‘Enhancing Digital Economy Participation for ASEAN Women MSMEs Project’ by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund. This project will be carried out by Sookmyung Women's University Asia Pacific Women's Information Center (APWINC).

About 6.6 billion won will be invested in this project over five years from 2021 to 2025 to strengthen the e-business capabilities of ASEAN female small business owners. Through this project, about 4,000 female small business owners and prospective small business owners in ASEAN are expected to benefit.

President Yunkeum Chang said, "our university has been recognized for its leading role in Women Entrepreneurship and strengthening digital capabilities through the selection of ASEAN-Korea cooperative project agency, and we expect our university's digital innovation strategies and women Entrepreneurship expertise will contribute to ASEAN women's capabilities."

Starting with the establishment of partnerships with 10 ASEAN countries, the ASEAN-Korea cooperation project will foster e-business coaches and provide customized digital capacity building education to women (preliminary) small business owners in ASEAN. This will contribute to strengthening the digital capabilities of ASEAN women small business owners as well as revitalizing the ASEAN economy.

Asia Pacific Women's Information Center (APWINC), an organization that carries out this project, has been working on the ASEAN-Korea cooperation project for more than a decade since 2010, and this project is expected to be more effective since the APWINC has a rich local network with a high understanding of ASEAN-Korea cooperation. The APWINC which was established in 1996 strives to strengthen women's capabilities using ICT through various international development cooperation projects, and in 1998, it was selected as a ‘UNESCO Chair agency in the field of communication technology for women’.
