Establishment of “Snowverse” on the Metaverse campus of Sookmyung Women’s University

Sookmyung Women’s University built the “Snowverse” in the Metaverse
campus and made its debut through “Cheongpa Festival” held from November 3
(Wed) to 5 (Fri).
LG U＋, Shinhan Bank, Mammo6, and Sookmyung Women’s University signed an MOU for the development and activation of Sookmyung Women＇s University＇s Metaverse campus service in the video conference room of the Administration Building on Monday, October 25.
At the signing ceremony held on this day, Sookmyung Women’s University President Yunkeum Chang, LG U＋ President Hyun-sik Hwang, Shinhan Bank Vice President Pil-hwan Jeon, Mammo6 CEO Cheol-ho Yu and officials attended the ceremony. They agreed to actively cooperate in ▲the development and revitalization of metaverse service at Sookmyung Women’s University festival “Cheongpa Festival” , ▲development and activation of sustainable university metaverse campus service , ▲development and operation of metaverse related research and training courses in industry-university connection and ▲metaverse campus related financial infrastructure linkage and promotion of finance service development.
LG U＋ is to build the first campus of Sookmyung Women’s University in the metaverse space and, in response to the opinions of the student council, present festival contents such as ▲ “Cheongpa Festival” opening ceremony, ▲ chatting between avatars, ▲ performing festival missions and ▲ operating a prop shop. In addition, during the festival period, a “U＋ charging station” is to installed to provide a 1GB data use ticket (for U＋ mobile subscribers) when an avatar visits, and the character “MOONO” is to support students who are exhausted from COvID-19 and studies through the “Heart Charging(마음충전).”
This metaverse space is implemented based on the social metaverse platform “Galaxity” developed by Mammo6. Mammo6 plans to create Sookmyung Women＇s University＇s own campus metaverse space by utilizing Galaxity＇s avatar design, items, avatar creation, user authentication, and chat functions.
Sookmyung Women’s University plans to discover metaverse service/business models that can be used on a daily basis on university campuses, and promote industry-university-linked research and curriculum development and operation. In the future, the school is also considering a plan to implement a service that links transactions of secondhand major-course books and clothing between students to the surrounding commercial area in the metaverse space. To this end, Shinhan Bank will provide a payment infrastructure that links student IDs and accounts.
President Yunkeum Chang said, “Through the Metaverse campus, we expect students to learn about the school in the post-COVID-19 era, interact with each other, and freely continue their campus activities,” and "we expect that ‘Snowverse’ will present a new direction for digital innovation, such as online consultations with professors and VR lectures.”
Sookmyung Women’s University is focusing on realizing a cloud campus through the establishment of the Digital Information Innovation last year, and upgrading the online education system in the new normal era. Through this metaverse construction, it is expected that exchanges and communication between members of the campus will take place in a more realistic and interesting way in a virtual space that overcomes physical limitations.
