Professor Namwoo Kang awarded with the ‘ACSMO2020 Young Scientist Award’

On November 23rd, Professor Namwoo Kang, a professor in the Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering of Sookmyung Women’s University, was awarded the ‘Young Scientist Award’ by ACSMO2020 (Asian Congress of Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization 2020), an international academic society.

Professor Kang, through his presentation of the study of Deep Learning-based CAD/CAE Framework, introduced practical and innovative methodologies that can incorporate deep learning into the areas of design and analysis of vehicle systems. Design processes in the past have been time-consuming and costly due to sequential and repetitive tasks in which engineers give feedback through interpretation after the designers design. However, the artificial intelligence infrastructure process proposed by Professor Kang allows engineers and designers to choose a design that fits the development concept when artificial intelligence generates and evaluates a large number of product design proposals, enabling rapid product development.
The Asian Society of Structural and Multidiscipline Optimization (ASSMO), which presented this award, is the Asian sector of the International Society for Structural and Multidiscipline Optimization (ISSMO), an international academic organization that studies structural and multi-disciplinary optimal design.
