Four educational research teams selected for the 4th-stage Brain Korea (BK)21 Project

Four educational research teams of Sookmyung Women’s University were selected for the Fourth Stage of “Brain Korea 21 (BK21) Project” sponsored by the Ministry of Education.

 

With this selection, Sookmyung Women’s University will be able to cultivate professional researchers by receiving support on research scholarships for graduate students, personnel costs for new researchers, etc. for the next 7 years. In particular, along with the Department of Biological Sciences (Project Group for Training Multi-signal-based Integrated Research Talents) and the Department of Chemistry (Project Team for Training Bio-convergence Chemistry Research-based Next-generation Female Leaders), which were selected for the existing BK21 Plus (3rd stage) Project, the Department of Food & Nutrition and the Department of IT Engineering were additionally selected to receive support of about 6.96 billion won for 7 years until August 2027.

 

The Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea have been promoting the “BK21 Project” since 1999 to reinforce the amount of education and training in graduate schools for future national competitiveness and to foster future generations of academia. This project, which is a follow-up to the third stage “BK21 Plus Project,” is a large-scale government-supported project that aims to provide 480 billion won annually for the next 7 years and cultivate 19,000 researchers at the master's and doctorate level per year.

 

Four of Sookmyung Women’s University's educational research teams that were selected for the 4th stage “Brain Korea 21 (BK21) Project are ■ Project Team for Training Cell Communication Research Female Talents (Team Leader Professor Yong-hwan Kim of Department of Biological Sciences) ■ Project Team for Training World-Class Biomolecular Diagnosis Specialized Global Female Talents (Team Leader Professor Min-hee Lee of Department of Chemistry) ■ Educational Research Team for Training Well-Aging Smart Food Research and Development Future Talents (Team Leader Professor Yo-han Yun of Department of Food and Nutrition) ■ Project Team for Cultivating Female Professionals Using Artificial Intelligence to Bridge Information Gaps (Team Leader Professor Sun-beom Lim of Department of IT Engineering).

The BK21 project is a representative graduate school support project that nurtures master's and doctoral level research personnel, and the education and research team of our school, selected for this phase 4 project, will promote the project in earnest from November and provide education in accordance with the project promotion goals of the future talent training project. Each research team plans to carry out a project to strengthen educational capabilities and to carry out innovative research activities.
