Held the 10th Anniversary Ceremony of Sookmyung Women’s University’s ROTC

Sookmyung Women’s University’s ROTC held a vision proclamation ceremony in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the first women’s university ROTC on December 17th (Thursday) at the Snowflake Square Hall on campus. The event was held via ZOOM due to COVID-19.

 


President Yunkeum Chang is giving a congratulatory remark to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the foundation of the school’s ROTC.

 

Since the creation of the first women's ROTC in the 50-year history of ROTC on December 10, 2010, Sookmyung Women’s University has taken the lead in fostering female leaders in the field of national defense according to the school’s founding philosophy of “national salvation through women's education.” In the 10 years since its founding, a total of 221 commissioned officers have been produced, which has greatly contributed not only to improving the awareness of women armed forces, but also to expanding the field of advancement.

Director of ROTC Se-hee Park is introducing the 2030 Vision of ROTC.

 

Accordingly, Sookmyung Women’s University announced the 2030 vision of the ROTC at the event that reflects the history of the ROTC over the past decade and to reaffirm its future goals. The vision statement contained training for human resources with intellectual virtues, building a mentoring bond between seniors and juniors in the ROTC, and practical measures to cultivate sacrifice and spirit of service. Se-hee Park, Director of the ROTC, said, “We will be reborn from the first female ROTC to the strongest elite ROTC with the aim of becoming an elite ROTC that is honorable, competent, and dedicated.”

 

Meanwhile, to congratulate the 10th anniversary of the foundation of Sookmyung Women’s University's ROTC, the Minister of National Defense Wook Suh, General Seon-yeong Kang, who became the first female major general since the foundation of Korea’s army, and military officers who graduated from Sookmyung Women's University sent their congratulatory videos. In addition, President Yunkeum Chang delivered welcoming remarks on site, and Kyu-deok Hong, professor of the Department of Political Science and International Relations, the first civilian defense reform director, delivered encouraging remarks.



The 59th ~ 60th ROTC cadets are reading the entire oath after the declaration of the vision.

 

In addition, ROTC predecessors, such as Captain Gi-eun Park, who had received a Presidential Citation for the ROTC summa cum laud graduation, gave congratulatory remarks through the online video platform Zoom, etc., and a delegation of the 59th ~ 60th ROTC cadets read the entire oath out loud at the site after the proclamation of the vision by the Director of ROTC Se-hee Park.

 


 

 

President Yunkeum Chang said, “We will continue to cultivate officers who are devoted to the nation and public, and create the world's strongest female ROTC to lead the new normal era by inheriting the founding philosophy of Sookmyung.”
