Sookmyung Women’s University received the highest grade in the “2020 Education and Welfare Support Status Evaluation for Disabled University Students” published by the Korea National Institute of Special Education.

This evaluation, which is conducted every three years to improve the conditions of higher education for students with disabilities, participated by 343 universities nationwide was conducted in three stages: written evaluation, on-site visit evaluation, and comprehensive evaluation based on self-evaluation report on three areas of ▲selection, ▲faculty/learning, and ▲facility. Sookmyung Women’s University has been selected as the best university for four consecutive times since 2011 with a total score of 90 or higher, receiving high scores evenly in all areas.

Sookmyung Women’s University's Center for Students with Disabilities has been providing customized services to various students with disabilities by establishing the Sookmyung TOS system (Top leader, One-stop service, Special care) since 2015. In addition, the development of specialized programs for students with disabilities and improvement education for disabled student awareness were continuously promoted, and facilities were improved to ensure the right to move and access for students with disabilities according to the characteristics of the campus located on the slope. In particular, in the case of the library, the overall equipment and facilities received excellent evaluation because the seats for students with disabilities were so evident that they felt they didn’t even require separate labeling.

The on-site evaluation team spoke very highly of our system and said, "Sookmyung Women's University is well prepared in accordance with the development plan, and is well-established with holistic services for students with disabilities from enrollment to graduation to employment, so we are anxiously looking forward to the next three years." According to the results of the evaluation, Sookmyung Women’s University is awarded a sign certificate of the best institution and the deputy prime minister's citation, and the evaluation results are expected to be used as basic data for government financial support projects.

Yun-seon Song, Director of the Center for Students with Disabilities and Dean of Student Affairs, said, "We will strive to minimize the difficulties of more students with disabilities through various supports and close services in the future so that they can devote themselves to their studies."
