Sookmyung Women's University Alumni Association (President Sun-rye Kim) is attracting attention by providing 3.6 million won per person to 70 Sookmyung Women's University students, 252 million won in total, who have been selected for the “Nunggot(Snowflake) Scholarship” to overcome COVID-19.

To commemorate the award of the scholarship, the “Nunggot(Snowflake) Scholarship and Certificate Award Ceremony” was held at the Alumni Center on May 7 (Fri). The ceremony was attended by President Yunkeum Chang, Alumni Association President Sun-rye Kim, and Dean of Student Affairs Yun-seon Song.

The Alumni Association began the Nunggot(Snowflake) Scholarship for the first time in February to support Sookmyung Women's University students who are experiencing financial difficulties due to COVID-19. The Nunggot(Snowflake) Scholarship is characterized by providing 300,000 won in cash every month for 12 months so that the scholarship students can use it for living expenses. On March 12, the scholarship award ceremony was held for the first 24 students of the Nunggot(Snowflake) Scholarship, and on May 7, 46 students were selected for the second scholarship, resulting in a total of 70 beneficiaries. So far, a total of 252 million won has been supported by the Nunggot(Snowflake) Scholarship.

At the event, President Sun-rye Kim explained the significance of the scholarship said, “As soon as we started fundraising for the Nunggot(Snowflake) Scholarship, our alumni gathered to help our Sookmyung people and the fund was raised within three weeks,” and “I hope the Nunggot() Scholarship can serve as a ray of hope to students during difficult times.”

Then, President Yunkeum Chang said, “The scholarship students in attendance today have started their adult lives within the warm embrace of Sookmyung Women’s University,” and “Sookmyung Women’s University, which is celebrating its 115th anniversary this year, will begin another 115 years of history with new Sookmyungians. I hope you can always remember the warmth you’ve received today and pay it forward when you also become great alumni of this university.”
