Sookmyung Women’s University’s students conducted an eco-friendly project using stock items from the North Face, an outdoor brand.

The Department of Clothing & Textiles at Sookmyung Women’s University held an upcycling fashion show in collaboration with Youngone Holdings (Raeeun Sung, CEO) on April 9 (Sat) at MonacoSpace in Seoul.

In line with the global trend of ESG management, which has emerged as a hot topic in the global market, the project was the result of the combined efforts of affiliates of Youngone Holdings, which has introduced eco-friendly products using waste plastics, and Sookmyung women’s University, which has made ESG implementation and innovation as a core task for a sustainable campus.

Youngone Holdings donated stock and returned products of the North Face, an outdoor brand of the affiliated company, Youngone Outdoor, to Sookmyung Women’s University, and 12 students majoring in fashion design from the Department of Clothing & Textiles reformed it with a new design to make them reborn as upcycling works.

The pieces were presented at a fashion show as part of their graduation work. The winners were awarded with a North Face eco-friendly ECO product as a prize, and all participants were presented with souvenirs.

The graduation fashion show of the Department of Clothing & Textiles, which celebrated its 45th anniversary this year, was held under the theme of Persona, and 43 designs were presented on 4 different stages.

Youngseon Kim, Chair of the Department of Clothing & Textile, said, "I hope that it will be an opportunity for students to participate in the project to realize the importance of design that gives new value to discarded clothes, and to participate in the eco-friendly design movement to save the planet."
