Sookmyung Women's University has successfully completed the Second Sookmyung-Minerva Exchange Program, a three-month exchange program with Minerva University, a world-class innovative university, which started in September last year and was held for 3 months.

Sookmyung Women's University held the completion ceremony of the Second Sookmyung-Minerva Exchange Program at the Science Hall on Dec.1 (Fri). The three-month program involving 120 Minerva University students from 48 countries and 56 Sookmyung students was completed after a three-month journey.

At the completion ceremony, the representative students from each university received certificates of completion and a video of the three-month experience was shown.

"We became friends with the students from Minerva University and rose above the language barrier to actively communicate with them, so we shared positive energy and different feelings," said participants Nam Hye-in and Lee Seo-jin. "We shared interests in Korea to build on memories and promised to keep in touch to maintain friendship even after the program."

Minerva University students Johanna Maria Seydel from Germany and Maria Juaristi from Spain said, "Through the Buddy Program, we were able to communicate and interact with our Korean friends and gain valuable insights into their lives and culture."

Since September, Sookmyung Women's University has been conducting a three-month exchange program with Minerva University, the world's top innovative university. Minerva University students travel to different cities each semester to conduct their studies, and we are the only Korean university to participate as an official partner.

Each month, the students participated in special lectures and cultural experience programs related to Korea to develop an international mindset. In September, Professor Lee Byeong-jong (School of Global Service) gave the first lecture on "Democracy in Korea", and in October, Professor Kang In-su (School of Economics) gave a lecture on "Economic Development of Korea". In November, Kim Jeong-bin, CEO of climate tech startup SuperBin, and Professor Yu Seung-jik (Department of Convergence of Climate and Environmental Studies) continued the discussion on "Environmental Policy in Korea".

In addition, students experienced a wide range of Korean culture by exploring places that fit the monthly theme, such as the Former Seodaemun Prison, the Seoul Museum of History, and the Seoul Upcycling Plaza. Unlike last year, when there was a combination of in-person and online programs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's program was held entirely in-person, resulting in higher student satisfaction.

"Through our partnership with Minerva University, we hope to work together with shared values and goals," said Jeon Se-jae, director of International Affairs. "We will continue to promote exchanges between the two universities and provide a venue for valuable exchanges."

Minerva University is an innovative university that has redefined the paradigm of higher education worldwide as a futuristic university where the world is the campus. After successfully completing the Sookmyung-Minerva program for the second time this year, the university plans to hold discussions for a new program in 2025.
