Professor Yeong-mi Hwang from the Division of General Education was elected as the new President of Korean Association of Film Critics (KAFC).

KAFC officials announced that Professor Yeong-mi Hwang was elected as the 26th president through the annual meeting held on the 17th (Fri). Celebrating its 60th anniversary, KAFC is truly a representative organization of Korean film critics. With sharp and exacting standards on popularity and cinematic quality, the association engages in various film-related activities such as holding the year-end Youngpyeong Awards, discovering new critics, and publishing the associations’ journal.

The newly elected President Hwang has served as the President of Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique (FIPRESCI) Korea, President of The Korean Society for Thinking and Communication, Judge of the government-supported international film festival (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), and FIPRESCI panel for international film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, and Busan. She is currently the Dean of Sookmyung Women’s University’s General Education Research Institute.

The newly elected President Hwang said, “I have taken on a very important responsibility as the president of the Korean Association of Film Critics (KAFC) at a time when the Korean film industry is producing global influence. We will revitalize FAFC based on its historical 60 years of expertise in film criticism that has led the current times.” The president's term is two years.
