Sookmyung Women's University’s Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering was selected for the “2020 Industrial Fine Dust Reduction and Chemical Safety Management Manpower Development Project (research director: Professor Si-wu Lee, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering)” publicly offered by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology.

This project, organized by the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, is a project that fosters professional manpower for the purpose of timely industrial response and strengthening market competitiveness concerning relatable environmental issues such as industrial fine dust and chemical safety, which recently have become social issues.

Sookmyung Women's University (industrial fine dust) was selected for this project along with Inha University (chemical safety) and Aju University (industrial fine dust and chemical safety). In the next 5 years, a total of 1.85 billion won in government contributions will be supported and will be used to foster graduate manpower.

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering is planning to develop more than 10 industrial fine dust experts every year by establishing a track for industrial fine dust in graduate schools and developing related programs to conduct projects.

Professor Gyeong-tae Park of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, who in charge of the project, said, “The selection for this project provided an opportunity for Sookmyung Women's University to actively respond to environmental issues that are closely related to our lives,” and “I hope students who are interested in environmental issues apply to our graduate school and receive benefits offered by the project.”
