Our university-operated PSS English Program selected as the Best Practice

At the Best Practice Competition that was held at Chungbuk National University on November 18, the Office of the Presidential Security was selected as the best agency through the Presidential Security Service (PSS) English Program (hereinafter, "PSS English") which has been jointly developed and operated by Sookmyung Women's University and the Office of the Presidential Security of the Blue House in Korea.
The competition hosted by the Ministry of Personnel Management was held to discover, select and share the best HR management practices in the central government and local governments. And PSS English of the Office of Presidential Security that is supported by our university received the highest honor by being awarded the Best Practice in the HRD field, and the second and third place was taken by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, and the National Police Agency, respectively.
PSS English is an educational program for raising the international communication competence of presidential security agents who guard the president and guests to our country, and it is a first English educational program for presidential security agents in the world that reflect their occupational uniqueness. Along with PSS English, our university has developed the PSS-MATE for measuring the presidential security English communication competence, and through this, our university has been recognized to have not only established the educational curriculum, but also to have established an evaluation system, provided quality courses and maximized educational effectiveness.
In February of 2014, our university has signed an MOU with the Office of Presidential Security of the Blue House regarding the operation of an English educational curriculum for their personnel. This MOU was the result of our university's professors in TESL major being selected to be in charge of the contents of the English program with the goal to improve English competence of presidential security agents, present the operational plan, as well as, be the institution in charge of PSS English program.
Our university has been the leader of the best quality English educational programs in Asia by implementing the TESOL program for the first time in Korea, developing/operating MATE which is a national certification exam for English communication competence, among other achievements. And through this award, our university again has proved its unequaled status in the development and operation of English programs with specific purposes.
Professor Kim Myeong-hee of the School of English who has participated in the development and operation of PSS English program revealed future plans by saying, "Based on PSS English, we will contribute to the quality improvement of English competence in our society by actively participating in customized English education that is needed in other government agencies and enterprises."
