Since being selected as the “Program for Industrial needs-Matched Education (PRIME)” in 2016, our university has established and operated various curricular and extracurricular programs to foster talented individuals who meet social needs. In particular, the “Sookmyung WINE (Women In Engineering) program,” which has been in progress since last year, is a representative program that provides hands-on convergence engineering education to enhance the learning ability in the promising engineering field for the future society.

This year's Sookmyung's WINE program consists of a total of three phases, basic, intermediate, and advanced, to enable participation by any student who is interested in engineering. The basic course, which started in May, consisted of the <Basic Python Grammar>, <R Basics>, <Arduino Smart Car>, and <360o Camera and Video Editing> programs. A total of 80 students participated in the basic course. The intermediate course, which began with the start of the second semester, consisted of the <Python Visualization and Text Analysis>, <R Data Analysis and Visualization>, <Drone>, and <Virtual Reality> course, which is a course that allows the participants to produce virtual reality contents for enjoying and experiencing virtual reality through Cospaces using smart devices or headsets.

Hyeon-seon Lee (IT Engineering ‘18) and Hae-seon Pyeon (Department of Nanophysics ‘16), who participated in the program, said, “We are very satisfied with this program because we got to learn about R in detail and various other things such as visualization and mapping.”

Representative Jin-su Seo said, “Students in this class will have the ability to gather and analyze a lot of data on the Internet to find keywords and visualize them” and “I hope the students can develop the ability to gather and analyze the myriad of data on the net.”

Sookmyung's WINE program is to launch advanced programs such as <Machine Learning & Statistical Analysis>, <Humanoid Robot>, and <Augmented Reality> during late October and early November. The officials of the Basic Engineering Education Center, which is in charge of the program, said, “We can reinforce self-directed career design through exploration of majors and engineering capacity building, and contribute to improving the competence to advance into society through advancement of technical education.”
