Our university was selected as a special organization of the “Women’s Laboratory Venture Innovation Group Project (hereinafter Women’s Laboratory Innovation Group Project”) which is conducted by the Ministry of Science and ICT. Accordingly, our university is to provide special support to women laboratory venture teams in order to revitalize the venture activities and create a laboratory venture environment for women undergraduate (graduate) students and researchers until 2021.

The Laboratory Venture Innovation Group is a specialized nurturing organization which supports public science & technology-based and market-linked venture search projects (Korean I-Corp Project) that began in 2015 by the Ministry of Science and ICT in order to accelerate commercialization of joint research results between universities and institutions nationwide. Since then, the 4 nodes, which include Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Korea University, and Sungkyunkwan University, along with 2 domestic/overseas specialized venture institutions, have been selected to play the role of finding and nurturing excellent laboratory venture search teams.

With the selection as the specialized nurture institution for women focused on fostering women natural sciences and engineering students toward entrepreneurship, our university plans to provide full entrepreneurship education and support by committing more than 1.4 billion won for the next 2 years so that laboratory technologies of women undergraduate (graduate) students and teaching staff can be commercialized in the market.

Women's Laboratory Search Team Kick-Off Meeting

Meanwhile, our university succeeded in producing 8 teams, which is 2/3 of a total of 12 teams assigned as women’s laboratory search teams for this year’s I-Corp Project. In order to recruit women’s laboratory search teams for the technical venture in the next year, our university is to find search teams and conduct commercialization support through the support of entrepreneurship education by the Entrepreneurship Engagement Foundation and technical consulting by the Research & Business Development Foundation.

The Entrepreneurship Engagement Foundation officials expressed their goals by saying “We will lead the realization of technical venture ecosystem for women in Korea through the cooperation between the Entrepreneurship Engagement Foundation and Research & Business Development Foundation.”
