Our university’s Career Development Center conducted VR mock interviews to aid our students with employment preparations.

The Office of Employment Support under the Career Development Center announced it has implemented the “2019 VR Interview Program for Building Employment Skills” for the preparing students at the Multicomplex Hall on Apr. 15.

The VR Interview program allows the participants to experience virtual interviews, which are almost identical to the real experience such as the actual image of the interview room and interviewers, and it also provides specific feedbacks based on the results.

The young applicants can overcome the fears of interviews stemming from lack of experience by wearing the VR device and carrying out conversations with life-like interviewers. They can also improve their skills on giving good responses by experiencing interview questions that were actually used by large corporations such as Samsung Electronics, LG Group, and Amore Pacific. In addition, all contents of the responses are recorded and used as reference data for future 1:1 feedback with the expert consultants from the Career Development Center for the Creative Economy.

While the former 1:1 mock interview was limited by time and space, and made many participants feel reluctant about having a face-to-face interview with a real person, the VR interview has the strength of providing less psychological burden on the participants by allowing them to conduct the interview on their own time and by themselves. Many of the 50 or so students who participated in the program agreed, “I was slightly reluctant to participate in the 1:1 mock interviews which were conducted on campus, but I am satisfied with the VR interview especially because of the lower entry barrier.”

The Career Development Center plans to conduct the VR interviews on a regular basis from now on based on the satisfaction results of the program. The Head of the Career Development Center Gyeong-yeong Ok announced, “We plan to provide more support by creating a VR interview room where mock interviews can be held at all times so that young applicants can examine their readiness at any time.”
