The Asia Pacific Women’s Information Network Center (APWINC), as a member of the 1st  International Development Cooperation Program of Gyeonggi Province, hosted the “Capacity Building Training Program for Gender Development in Cambodia” from 19th to 28th October. Ten Cambodian senior government executive servants participated in this training program, including the Secretary-General of Cambodian Women's Development Agency, the Vice-Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, and delegates from the Ministry of Women Affairs, the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, and the Ministry of Industry and Handicraft.

In the training research program, the Cambodian delegation learned Korea's policies for developing women resources, supporting employment of and startup companies by women, and shared success stories. They also visited the Gyeonggi-do Provincial Office and enterprises established by women CEOs. In addition, by sharing the current status and operations of Gyeonggi Women's Development Center as well as interviewing the users of the Center's programs, they were able to not only observe the process of policy making but also check its real-life implementation and the final outcome.

According to APWINC, Cambodia is a "young" country with unlimited potential, as more than 70 percent of its population in their 20s and 30s.Women, in particular, are receiving full support from both the government and the Royal Palace in a wide variety of sectors.  Women’s issues are high on the government priority list in Cambodia. For instance, the National Women's Council directly proposes policies to the Prime Minister and the Queen.

“We believe we can help Cambodia empower its women in competency and financial status  by sharing the know-how and experiences of Korea, one of which is having produced a female president," said Ms. Kim Myonghee, Executive Director of APWINC. “This program is especially meaningful, as the delegation is comprised of high ranking civil servants, including the members of the National Women's Council, which directly report to the Prime Minister of Cambodia. I expect this visit will have a substantial impact on Cambodia's policy-making and execution as well as on building a close and lasting partnership between Cambodia and Korea.”.
