Held the New Year Congratulatory Ceremony announcing the beginning of 2020

Sookmyung Women's University held the New Year Congratulatory Ceremony on January 2 at The Second Foundation Campus’ Nunggot Square Hall. Over 300 attendees attended the New Year Congratulatory Ceremony including Sookmyung Educational Foundation Chairman Seung-han Lee and President Jungai Kang, professors and staff members. From the Alumni Association, executive directors including Alumni President Jong-hui Kim also attended the ceremony.

 



 

The event began with members wishing the best for others and making spirited resolutions in celebration of the New Year. Next, the delegations of the 52nd Student Union and 37th Graduate Student Association came to the stage to greet the members.

 


 

Following Chairman Seung-han Lee’s New Year message, President Jungai Kang thanked the members who made efforts for sustainable development despite the difficult internal and external conditions, and congratulated our university’s recent achievements. President Kang said, “Sookmyung Women's University, which has successfully performed the Campus Town Project in Seoul for the past 3 years, has been selected as the second stage participant of the Campus Town” and “We will discover various entrepreneurs and contribute to national competitiveness under the new goal of ‘Neo-entrepreneurship’.”

 


 

In addition, she shared other good news such as the #1 employment rate among women's colleges for the second year in a row, the 19th overall ranking in the JoongAng Ilbo University Rankings, and the addition of new students in some departments.

 


 

The introduction of the WISE flexible semester system, the establishment of a flexible academic system centered on educational users, and the reorganization of the curriculum to raise the core competencies of the university's human resources were presented as examples of major innovations promoted by Sookmyung Women's University last year. Lastly, President Kang showed her commitment toward ensuring financial security by preventing early freshmen dropouts and thoroughly preparing for the 2021 basic college competency evaluation.

 


 

At the New Year's Concert following the New Year message, Narsha, a choir comprised of College of Music students, sang “Climb Every Mountain” from the film Sound of Music and “Butterfly” from the film Take Off to sound the spirited beginning of the New Year.
