President Yunkeum Chang of Sookmyung Women’s University attended the Southern California Alumni Association meeting held at the JJ Grand Hotel in Los Angeles, USA on October 17 (Sun).

The Southern California Alumni Association boasts about 450 members and has greatly contributed to the founding of the American Alumni Association.

At the alumni meeting on this day, about 20 alumni attended, including alumni Young-sun Lee (College of Pharmacy, ‘64), the first chairman of SMAIF (Sookmyung Alumnae International Foundation), alumni Heon-ja Choi (Department of Family Studies, ‘65), who is the current 5th chairman, accountant Hyeon-soon Lee (Department of Political Science & International Relations, ‘83), who is responsible for the actual operation of SMAIF and are organizing donations and remittance to schools, and alumni Joo Kim (Department of Education, ‘85), the current president of Southern California Alumni Association. They warmly welcomed President Chang, Dean Ki-eun Jung of International Affairs and Associate Dean Jang-ho Moon of the External Affairs and Communication.

In her greetings, President Chang expressed her gratitude by saying “Thanks to the dedication and love of the Southern California Alumni Association, our alma mater has seen great developments.” She then received great applause with the announcement of the school development plan through the 2030 Sookmyung Vision of “The World's Best Digital Humanity University.”

On behalf of the Southern California Alumni Association, Alumni Young-sun Lee said, “I can’t be more proud of being a Sookmyungian. I would like to thank the president for visiting the Southern California Alumni Association even in the difficult circumstances of COVID-19, and we will work together to further develop our alma mater.”

President Chang promised to meet at the American Alumni Association meeting, which is scheduled to be held in Georgia next May, and asked for great interest and love from the Southern California Alumni Association in the future.

The American Alumni Association was established in 1999 to bring alumni from all over the Americas together under the name of “Sookmyung” to promote friendship among alumni, deepen exchanges and cooperative relationships between branches, and further contribute to the development of the alma mater that is leaping into a world-class university.

The alumni association, which also serves as the regular general meeting, is held once every two years by the branch where the president resides. Currently, alumni Kyung-ja Kim (Department of English Lang. & Lit., ‘68) is the president of the American Alumni Association. The event was not held in 2021 due to COVID-19 and will be held in May 2022 in Georgia.
