The ultimate goal of the Research Center for Cell Fate Control at Sookmyung’s MRC is to discover small molecule controlling cell division and differentiation with the aim of curing neurological disorders, muscular diseases and cancer, and to nurture medical researchers capable of inventing new medications. The Korean government will invest 7 billion won in the center, with Sookmyung matching that support. AnC Bio Inc. also intends to invest 1.4 billion won in the center to support the cost of joint research. Sookmyung’s research capacity is expected to be greatly augmented now that it hosts the MRC as a long-term and stable research base.
