The World Congress of Music Therapy was held in the Centennial Hall of Sookmyung Women's University from October 5th to 9th. This was the first time the World Congress of Music Therapy was held in Asia.

The congress, hosted by the World Federation of Music Therapy, and supervised by the Sookmyung Graduate School of Music Therapy and the Korean Music Therapy Academy, was attended by some 1200 people, including 580 music therapists from 45 countries.

This conference was carried out by way of music therapists giving presentations and sharing information. From the opening ceremony to the closing ceremony, those in attendance relished the opportunity to communicate with each other through music therapy, evident from the smiles on all faces.

Choi Byung-chul, professor of the Graduate School of Music Therapy and chairman of the organization committee of this conference, commented that “music therapy in Korea is developing infinitely. Just as all of us here have connected through the music therapy, I believe that many more people can be united through it.”

The World Congress of Music Therapy, sponsored by the World Federation of Music Therapy, takes place every three years, each time in a different international location. This was its first time in Asia, thereby marking a new milestone in expanding its base for music therapy worldwide.

Another highlight of the event was Professor Choi Byung-chul being elected as the 9th president of the World Federation of Music Therapy at the regular general meeting of the World Congress of Music Therapy. Professor Choi's new role involves managing global projects, publishing the cyber journal, and hosting the World Congress of Music Therapy with seven affiliated committees until his term of office finishes in 2014.
