Sookmyung's 112th Anniversary Ceremony Held

On May 17, our university held the '112th Anniversary Ceremony of Sookmyung’ in the Queen Sunheon Building auditorium.

 

This ceremony was held to ruminate over the steps Sookmyung took from 1906 as Myungshin Women’s School founded by the imperial empress to becoming the focal influence of Korea’s female education and to promise a new start in celebrating the 112th anniversary.

 

 

In the ceremony, Sookmyung Academy Chairman Lee Seung Han, University President Kang Jeong Ae, Alumni Association President Jeong Soon Oak, and around 200 guests participated and government accredited employees and long-term employees were awarded at this event.

  

President Kang explained how the school was founded 112 years ago, with the innovative idea of reviving the nation and people through woman’s education through her commemorative address. She also announced that SMWU will continue the historical tradition and achieve ‘Renaissance Sookmyung’ to cultivate leaders for the 4th industrial revolution.


 

She also stated “Members of the school strived to get through a significant predicament, which is the second ‘University Reformation Evaluation’ and we are one step closer to ‘Renaissance Sookmyung’ by the renovation of our 2nd Campus”. Furthermore, she showed the stable capability of Sookmyung by mentioning various accomplishments and additionally presented future goals.

 

 

President Kang insisted that the undergraduate system be reformed to aim for integration between majors and education methods and administrative organizations be restructured according to the 4th industrial revolution. She expects that these efforts could actualize the vision of global Sookmyung with future values.


 

Meanwhile, before the Ceremony, faculties with excellent evaluation were awarded in the Han Sang Eun Lounge of the Centennial Hall. Professors and teachers with outstanding class evaluations and research results and teaching staff with superior outcomes were awarded.
