Our university selected as a “Preliminary Self-improvement College”

Our university was selected as a preliminary self-improvement college from the first analysis result of the 2018 Basic College Competency Evaluation announced by the Ministry of Education on June 20.
The Basic College Competency Evaluation is an assessment conducted by the Ministry of Education and Korea Education Development Institute to structurally adjust colleges and reinforce their competitiveness. The evaluation sums up the quantitative indicators and qualitative indicators related to the basic components requisite to colleges by targeting a total of 323 schools in order to classify each college as a preliminary self-improvement college, competency reinforcement college, or restricted financial aid college according to the result.
When selected as a preliminary self-improvement college, the school’s quota doesn’t have to be reduced and can receive general financial aid which can be used at the school’s discretion. On the other hand, for competency improvement colleges, the quota must be partially reduced and the financial aid gets partially restricted as well. In the case of restricted financial aid colleges, all government aids get suspended.
By being classified as a preliminary self-improvement college on this day, our university will not only be free from disadvantages such as pressures of quota reduction and restricted financial aids, but is also expected to receive 3 ~ 9 billion won in general financial aid.
The Ministry of Education conducted the first evaluation centered on the analysis of faculty procurement rate/class management/scholarship support/recruitment rate/employment rate, etc. and selected the top 64% as the schools falling in the preliminary self-improvement college category. It was a measurement of educational conditions and educational performance of each school based on indicators. Since the announcement of the Ministry of Education’s basic plans in the beginning of this year, our university has been conducting focused analysis on the relevant indicators and preparing ways to manage them by forming a dedicated TF Team.

Meanwhile, the results of the first Basic College Competency Evaluation is to be finalized at the end of June following the deliberation on the objections raised per college carried out by the College Restructuring Committee, and the final result including the restricted financial aid colleges is to be finalized after the application of the corruption/irregularity sanction cases at the end of August.
