Opening of Main Library’s PRIME Smart Plaza

With the coming of a new semester, our university’s Main Library opened the PRIME Smart Plaza (hereinafter “Smart Plaza”).
The Smart Plaza that has been created on the second floor of the Main Library through the support of the PRIME Project was prepared to induce creative cooperation among users and to contribute to increasing the cooperative and communicative skills of students in the capstone design subject.
The library officials created a differentiated atmosphere in the existing second floor during the winter break by rearranging sofas and other furniture and additionally installing multipurpose partitions, desks, and chairs. In addition, while expanding railing-type desks that increase meditation and focus, the existing small conference room has been recreated into a cooperative space that allows discussions and seminars. The walls of the Smart Plaza and the seminar room were installed with extra-large back-painted glass so that the users can jot down ideas at any time.
Especially, the IT sofas that have been designed to block view and enable comfortable use of laptops are very popular among students. IT sofas are equipped with individual light stands and electrical outlet, and the armrest is installed with an IT box that enables wireless charging for smart phones (excluding iPhones).
The operation policy of the Smart Plaza is to create a space that enables team projects and active discussions in a free atmosphere. Accordingly, unlike the reading room or reference library, a certain degree of noise is allowed such as free communication and use of keyboards. Library officials announced, “In order to establish a user friendly space, we eliminated the seat reservation system and changed the small conference room to a seminar room to open to the students,” and “We plan to increase spatial usage more by observing the utilization patterns of students.”
