As a part of the Healthy Steps Project for improving the fitness of the students, our university installed the “Sookmyung Healthy Steps” at the Queen Sunheon Building.

The Healthy Steps Project is an exercise campaign based on promoting more frequent use of steps to encourage physical fitness for the Sookmyungians in line with our school’s principle of producing global talents with intellectual, ethical, and physical qualities. The aim is to create the synergy of staying healthy and saving energy by making aerobic exercise a way of life through the use of steps rather than elevators.

Accordingly, our university installed visual panels at each side and the wall of the main steps of the Queen Sunheon Building last week that display various interesting information such as calorie consumption of using the steps. The officials of the Student Services said, “The visual images contain our school’s song, various symbolic images, visions, and encouraging phrases,” and “We hope people can receive positive energy by reading the phrases and climbing the steps from the first to the fifth floor.”

The designs of the visual images were talent donations from the students of College of Fine Arts (Yang Hui-su from Department of Painting 2013, Ji Ye-in from Department of Visual & Multimedia Design 2014, Hong Ye-na from Department of Visual & Multimedia Design 2016). Our school plans to install additional Healthy Steps on other buildings on campus after gathering feedback from the students who have used them.
