Awarded the 1st Prize at the 2018 Traditional Market-University Cooperation Project Competition

Sookmyung Women’s University’s Traditional Market-University Cooperation Project Group was awarded the Minister of SMEs and Startups Award, the 1st Prize, at the “2018 Traditional Market-University Cooperation Project Competition” which was hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and Small Enterprise And Market Service (SEMAS) on October 12.

The “2018 Traditional Market-University Cooperation Project” is a project for revitalizing creative traditional markets, where the college student participants equipped with creative ideas can have the opportunity to change the traditional market through cooperation between traditional markets and universities. Our university was selected for the project in April and is to receive 130 million KRW in annual support.

 

At the competition, a total of 18 universities nationwide presented their diverse items developed through the past collaboration with different markets. Our university’s teams such as the BI, Character, Sign Teams and the Display Stand and Earning System Teams presented their results for the betterment of the Yongmun Traditional Market which is near our school. Our university teams received the 1st Prize after a final screening by 10 experts.

The Head of the Project Group HaBong Cheon(professor in the Department of Industrial Design) said, “This was the result of the students from the Department of Industrial Design, Department of Environmental Design, and Department of Visual & Multimedia Design selecting 4 key areas for market improvement, forming teams, and working hard over the summer break.”

 

The project group is to proceed to the actual development phase, where the ideas from the students will apply to real prototypes by the end of the year. Their plan is to revitalize the Yongmun Traditional Market with such results from the competition, and furthermore, develop the traditional market into a representative market of Seoul.
