Jang Yoon-geum, president of Sookmyung Women’s University, and students from the environmental club attended the Zero West Campus MZ meeting held at Dongdaemun DDP Seoul-On Studio on March 26. They shared ideas with students from other environmental clubs.

The Zero West Campus is a university model that comprehensively applies various types of zero-waist practices such as zero cafes without disposable cups, zero restaurants using multiple delivery containers, and zero markets without disposable packaging materials. It plans to promote zero-waist culture by conducting eco-friendly activities such as progging and upcycling around 20 universities in Seoul.

Students made presentations regarding systems, change of perception, school shopping districts, separation of garbage etc. Moreover, about these topics, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and Konkuk University President Jeon Young-jae had a sympathetic talk with the students at the MZ meeting. SEM, an environmental leadership group at our university, participated representing our university.

At this meeting, President Jang explained the innovation of ESG practice, which is the core task of the 'Fate 2030 Vision' announced by our university last year. She added that she is continuing to study related fields and strengthening our responsibility to the environment and the community. In addition, she promised to actively participate in Zero West campus activities with students with 3P: Passion, Persistence, and Power.

In fact, our university, along with public organizations and companies in Yongsan-gu, is leading volunteer activities to improve the local environment and reduce waste such as disposable goods. Furthermore we are also sending messages on environmental issues such as upcycling and resource recycling in various ways.

In recent years, smart farm projects have been underway in schools, and efforts have been made to build a carbon neutral campus platform by promoting the sharing of university resources. In addition to forming a consortium of carbon neutral ESG future leading practical research teams with other universities, the university is also actively working to foster human resources in order to lead the transformation toward a carbon neutral society.

On the other hand, the event ended with the announcement of ideas and awards for the Zero Campus, which was recruited online, and the reading of the Zero Campus Action Declaration.
