Implement a “Tumbler Use Campaign” to Commemorate World Environment Day

Our university holds a “Tumbler Use Campaign” on June 5 (Monday) to mark “World Environment Day.” World Environment Day was established in 1972 at the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm, Sweden to address global environmental issues. This year＇s theme for World Environment Day is “Beat Plastic Pollution,” a global movement are being continued to reduce the use of plastic.

This campaign will be held by members of our university using tumblers instead of disposable cups from this day to June 9 and posting their photos of using tumblers on their Instagram. In line with World Environment Day (June 5), 65 members who participated in the campaign will be selected by lottery and given university’s eco-bags. The campaign can be found on the university＇s official Instagram account.

President Jang Yoon-geum said, “We prepared this campaign to reduce plastic used in our lives and create a sustainable campus,” adding, “Sookmyung Women＇s University will continue to take the lead in reducing plastics on campus as Korea＇s representative eco-friendly university.”
Meanwhile, our university is focusing on creating an eco-friendly campus by installing waste mask collection boxes on campus to conduct a “Waste mask upcycling” program and introducing a reusable container rental system at the festival.
