They are Pham Huynh Y Quanh who graduated from Viet Nam National University (Ho Chi Minh City) and is majoring in economics at our university and Vo Thi Hong Phuong who is a public official in Qui Nhon City and has completed the graduate program in Biological Science.

They have been studying at our university through the support provided by the “Sister City Study Abroad Project” that is being jointly conducted by Yongsang-gu and Qui Nhon in Viet Nam. The Sister City Study Abroad Project is a project that has been started with aims to foster excellent talents who will bridge the two countries after the 5th term inauguration of Head of Yongsan-gu Office Seong by popular vote.

BUI THI LY LY became the first graduate from the Department of Public Administration last year through this project, and Pham Huynh Y Quanh and Vo Thi Hong Phuong followed in the footsteps this year. In particular, Pham Huynh Y Quanh grabbed a lot of attention by maintaining grades high enough to be listed in the highest rankings in the department, despite her linguistic limitations.

With the upcoming graduation, they sent their words of gratitude to our university and Yongsan-gu for all the help and are known to have sent a letter of gratitude to the Head of Yongsan-gu Office Seong who they admired and called “father” with an added message that “We will always work hard and remember that we have another father in Korea.” Head of Yongsan-gu Office Seong also attended the graduation ceremony and congratulated his daughters’ successful study abroad in Korea and a new beginning.

The beneficiary students of this project plan to return to Viet Nam and work at the Korean Language Center in their hometown Qui Nhon City for a year to conduct Korean lectures and promote Sookmyung Women’s University.

Meanwhile, our university has been supporting admission fees, tuition, and dormitory expenses for the outstanding Viet Nam international students through this project that began in 2010. And our university plans to make continuous efforts so that excellent students can live their dreams of studying abroad. The officials at the Office of International Affairs announced that “There are 2 students from Qui Nhon City who are currently studying abroad and we plan to additionally pick a new student in May.”
