This event was held as a part of the winter visit program, WBBP, supervised by our university’s Office of International Affairs. WBBP is the abbreviation of Winter Beyond Borders Program, which is a program that composes of various lectures, field trips, and experiential activities that provide opportunities to learn Korean language and culture for foreigners in line with the global Korean Wave.

The event celebrates the 8th anniversary this year since the first opening in 2010, and with a variety of programs, it is very popular among foreign students.  This year, a total of 23 students from sister schools visited our university.

Since January 4, the students participated in on/off campus Korean language, taekwondo, and Korean food classes as well as cultural experiential activities such as Nanta performance, K-POP dancing, and DMZ tour. The Dumpling-making Event on this day was prepared to introduce Korean holiday foods in light of the upcoming biggest Korean holiday, the Lunar New Year's Day.

The students watched with interest as the lecturer from the Korean Food Institute demonstrated how to make dumplings, jeon (Korean pancakes), neobiani (marinated grilled beef slices), etc. After the demonstration, the students divided into groups and took the time to make the food on their own. They seemed to fully enjoy the Korean food as they took photos with their own interesting custom-made dumplings or tasted them and shared their impressions with others.

Sauja Jainab, a student from the International University of Erbil in Iraq, said, “The old saying that you can give birth to a pretty baby if you can make pretty dumplings was very memorable” and “thanks to the saying, it was fun to watch everyone trying so hard to make good looking dumplings.”
