“Opening the age of Sookmyung Renaissance,” inauguration of the 19th President Jungai Kang

At the inauguration ceremony of President Jungai Kang, all the key people who have created and led the past and present of Sookmyung Women’s University was in attendance. It was participated by the Chairman of Sookmyung Educational Foundation Lee Don-hee, former Chairman Lee Sae-woong (current President of Sinil Academy), 13~16th President Lee Gyeong-sook, 17th President Han Young-sil, 18th President Sunhye Hwang, Chairman of Sookmyung Cultural Foundation Cho Seon-hye, Alumni President Jeong Sun-ok as well as officials of alumni and enterprises outside of the school.



In addition, over 100 outside guests from the areas of administration, industry, and academia attended and congratulated the inauguration of President Kang such as President of Yonsei University Kim Yong-hak who gave the congratulatory message, Saenuri Party Member Lee Wan-young, President of National Commission for Corporate Partnership Ahn Chung-young, former Mister of Personnel Management Lee Geun-myeon, and Head of Yongsan-gu Office Seong Jang-hyeon. The event was presided by the Announcer Jeong Mi-seon who is an alumni and the current main anchor for the SBS 8PM News.



President Kang received the certificate of appointment from Chairman Lee Don-hee and expressed her resolution to open a new age of Sookmyung renaissance during her inaugural speech. President Kang presented a detailed development strategy after saying “I will raise the quality of education, students, and faculty to the highest level in order to produce women leaders who can contribute to the development of our nation, people, and humanity just as the founding philosophy of Sookmyung Women’s University.”



First of all, President Kang announced that she will improve the competencies of all members in order to raise the value of Sookmyungians and build a smart Sookmyung by establishing a platform that operates under a system. In addition, she expressed her resolution to create a “One Team” where all the members can communicate and participate based on transparency and trust as well as reinforcing the competencies of the university through decentralization of individual colleges and strong research incentives, among others.



In terms of university finances, she announced that she will focus all her capacity in financial expansion at the forefront in order to create a sustainable profit structure. Lastly, she shared her vision to practice an education that can create a sustainable university for the next 100 years and implement diverse win-win cooperative projects with the local community to realize mutual growth.



Meanwhile, rice was donated instead of congratulatory wreaths at the inaugural ceremony with the President Kang’s wishes to develop with the local community, and 1,300kg of rice (65 bags) was donated to the Yongsan-gu Office which will be distributed to neighbors in need. Along with the College of Music Choir, the Yongsan-gu Junior Choir was invited for the inaugural performance, and they performed a congratulatory song together.
