IT Talk Concert held to celebrate the foundation of the College of Engineering

The College of Engineering Establishment Pursuit Business Group and ICT Integration Research Center jointly held the ‘IT Talk Series’ to celebrate the start of the new college over two days, on September 11 and 18.


The first talk concert was held at B101 of the Jinri Building on campus on the 11th. The first Korean Google engineer Joon-young Lee, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Department of Computer Engineering Professor Sung-hoon Kim, and CEO Jong-hwan Park of Loc N All, which provides the Kim Gisa (Driver Kim) app service, appeared to talk about ‘Excitement, Fun, and Happiness.’

All of the lectures jointly emphasized “Living a life where you pursue what you really want to do, and what you can be good at, rather than the name of a good school or high qualifications.” In addition, they talked about their failures, and advised, “Do not despair from failure. Use it as fertilizer and a turning point for further development, and some day, you will receive the results you desire.”

The theme of the second talk concert on the 18th was ‘Koreans of Silicon Valley.’ Jong-young Yoon, who has worked as an IT infrastructure consultant in Silicon Valley for around 15 years, experts from Silicon Valley, Ho-joon Park, who develops data solution in the Big Data Team of Linkedin, Yoo-jin Chang, who works as an R&D software engineer at Lucasfilm, which created the Star Wars series, and Soo-hyun Park, who is a user experience designer for the start-up company Modlar, were invited and shared stories of their experiences.

Soo-hyun Park graduated from the Department of Multimedia Science in 2011 and entered the start-up company Modlar. She said, “I think the many failures and mistakes I experienced in college are what made me who Iam now, working in Silicon Valley,” and added, “I hope you will create your own path.”

The students who came to the two talk concerts showed great interest in all the words of the lecturers, who did not have special backgrounds, and continuously asked questions, creating an exciting atmosphere. Not just students, but also many local residents and students from other universities came to hear their stories. 


Professor Soon-bum Lim of the Department of Multimedia Science said, “We planned the talk concert with the intention of giving young people interested in IT with courage and encouragement to fulfill their dreams by listening to the stories of our speakers, who have reached success without graduating from a top university,”and added, “We will continue to provide lectures like this when we change into the Department of IT Engineering as part of the College of Engineering next year.
