The Osaka International Music Competition is one of many national competition hosted by Japan, and is a highly competitive competition where national talents compete against each other in each categories of vocal, strings, winds, and piano. The preliminaries were held in Germany, Russia, Austria, U.S., Japan, China and Korea, where only 17 teams have attained the qualifications to advance to the finals. It was a very meaningful competition for Quartet Rêve, as they took 1stplace against runner-ups who have studied in various internationally famous institutes, such as the Universität der Künste Berlin or the Manhattan School of Music in the U.S.

The Quartet Rêve commented on the opportunity to participate in the competition by noting “We have decided to take the challenge so that we may be faithful to music by maintaining a studious mindset without slacking”. They have gathered since early August, and practiced at school or separately rented practice rooms during their spare time, and coordinated their ensemble on various stages, such as the Bukchon Music Festival. Yoon Se-ji, who is the leader of the quartet had commented on their winning by noting “It was difficult to coordinate times to practice because we all have our own personal responsibilities during the day, but I believe we were able to accomplish what we have through trust and passion”.
