“Go Sookmyung, Sookmyung Power!” Sookmyung Power Network Day

TV announcer Ms. Lee Sooyeon (Chinese Language and Literature, Class of 2006, AJU Business News) served as the master of ceremony and the event was attended by well over 300 alumnae, including Ms. Jeong Jeongae (History, Class of 1966), Ms. Lim Youngsin (English Language and Literature, Class of 1975), Ms. Lim Mikyeong (History, Class of 1978), and Ms. Lee Minsun (Business Administration, Class of 1984), all with high spirits and love for their alma mater.

“Congratulations and thanks to our alumnae for their splendid achievements, lifting the pride and honor of Sookmyung in every corner of society. I hope we build a meaningful human network, sharing partnership and leadership” said President Hwang Sunhye in her welcoming speech.

Ms. Jeong Sunok, President of Alumnae Association and Ms. Ryu Jiyoung (Life Arts, Class of 1972, lawmaker and proportional representative of the ruling Saenuri Party) joined in, asking everyone to “join hands! Show the world the strength of Sookmyung!” In part 1 of the event, several alumnae communities by profession were introduced: Myungjaehoe (law), SAPPier (PR and advertisement), S.Now (media and broadcasting), Insahae (HR), Sookmyung Snowflake Mentor Club, Chungchunghae (civil servants), and Sookyeonhoe (theater).

C’academy (career consulting) was newly formed on the spot amid lively interactions and exchanges among the alumnae. Part1 came to a grand finale with a beautiful song by Ms. Kim Sujin, an opera singer (Vocal Music, Class of 2003).

Part2 was a talk show entitled, ‘Get Together! Sookmyung Power!’ moderated by professor Shin Sanghun from Hanyang University. More seniors alumnae shared their life experiences and wisdom tinted with good humor, while younger alumnae took the advice to their hearts. Freed from the work stress, they shared candid stories and roaring laughters. Everyone enjoyed themselves united as one the name of Sookmyung.

To a large group of alumnae working for Shinhan Bank, Ms. Park Gwangok (French Language & Culture, Class of 1985), manager of SMU branch of Shinhan Bank said, “I feel stronger knowing that more than 130 alumnae work at Shinhan Bank. The power of alumnae network grows stronger when alumnae in the same field with similar interests get together and share their influence. I look forward to the future success of our career networks.”

Meanwhile, the alumnae at the event showed great interest in ‘Nalbit’ Scholarship, as an extension of their affection to their alma mater and their juniors. It is a small donations campaign, raising fund those juniors, who are pressed to give up on their dreams due to financial difficulties. 


Alumnae President Ms. Jeong Sunok donated 5million won in celebration of the event, while others committed to a scholarship amounting to total 20million won for the many hard-working juniors striving for academic success and employment. Furthermore, the bid and the profits from the special auction called "The Senior Alumni I Wish to Meet,” will also be donated to the university development funds.

Sookmyung Power Network Day was organized as an extension of the lecture series ’Reset Your Career Turning Crisis into Success with Insahae,’ held from March to May this year. “We hope that the high expectations and desire for the career networks flourishes and result in synergistic effect” said the Office of Fundraising and Development, the host of the event.
