‘Women Holds the Future of Science and Technology!" says Teresa Carlson of Amazon in Special Lecture

Teresa Carlson, Vice President of Worldwide Public Sector Business at Amazon web Services (AWS), a world leader in cloud computing market, gave a special lecture on success of women scientists and engineers. As a woman vice president of the world's top IT company, Carlson drew a lot of attention from the students.

 

 

 

Responsible for all global public sector businesses of AWS, a pioneer of global cloud computing market, she was named as one of the Top 39 Leaders of Cloud Computing Market, selected by Business Insider, an American IT magazine, as well as one of the Power 100, selected by .

Teresa Carlson also received the Ellis Island Medal of honor in 2016 from the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO) for sharing  her knowledge, courage, compassion, talents, and altruistic kindness with the underprivileged.

 

 

 

In her lecture, Carlson stressed the need for more professional women in science and technology industry and emphasized the important role of educational institutions. She further advised young women to continue their studies in STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and join the IT industry, as the demand for cloud resources increases across the world.

Carlson gave an example of "Code.org", a website for coding education established by  an American non-profit education organization, and introduced "AWS Educate", a global program, which provides resources regarding Cloud education to students and educators.

 

 

 

The special lecture was part of the Renaissance Lecture Series, held by Sookmyung Women's University as a venue for discussion of convergence topics across liberal arts, social studies, arts, science and engineering as a means to foster women talents needed for the future.

"I hope Vice President Carlson’s visit serves as an opportunity to raise our students' interest in STEM studies and to remind us of the importance of women scientists and engineers," said President Kang Jung Ai. Sookmyung Women's University has been committing to developing women talents in science and engineering, as required by the businesses and the industry. The University established the College of Engineering last year and was the only women's university to be selected for PRIME (Program for Industrial Needs-Matched Education) projects this year.
