The welcoming ceremony for the new families to our university which included the 2015 school year admission ceremony and Sookmyung family welcoming ceremony was extravagantly at the Jamsil Gymnasium on February 11 (Wed). This year's admission ceremony which was opened under the catch phrase 'The proud new name in my life, Sookmyung People!' became a time of passing on our universities excellent competence and proud dignity to the students who are starting their promising college life and to the parents who have been invited.
The ceremony composed of a total of 3 parts, first was the freshman orientation, second admission ceremony and the third was the celebration event. The first part progressed with the official promotional video of the university followed by the welcoming video for young freshman created by the ambassador and learning of the school song.
The second part which was presided by the Dean of Academic Affairs Gyu-deok Hong started the official admission ceremony with the introduction of distinguished guest from home and abroad such as the president Sun-hye Hwang, Chairman of the Board Don-hi Lee, Alumni Association president Sun-ok Jeong and Rwandan Ambassador to Korea, followed by freshman oath, scholarship award, etc.
In her welcoming message, President Hwang said, "I would like to welcome the new students to Sookmyung which boasts 109 years of history this year" and "I hope you can all become college students who can independently plan your future and put it into practice." Chairman of the Board Don-hi Lee and the Rwandan Ambassador also gave their congratulatory message to the new students.
For this year's Sookmyung Family, selected every year at the admission ceremony, the honor went to Professor Si-hyeon Ham from the Chemistry Department who won the 'Science and Technology Woman of the Year Award' last year and the student team from the Industrial Design Department who have stepped into a successful path of entrepreneurship by winning a prize at the competition sponsored by Samsung.
After the admission ceremony, the new students were divided by each college department and held separate orientations for two days by relocating to different areas of the country such as Chungju, Yeongjongdo, Gimpo and Hoengseong. During the OT, professors, seniors from the Student Association, faculty and others all participated to progress the introduction of the departments, and they enjoyed getting to know everyone through recreations.
