On the 20th of last month, our University’s Korean English Language Education Society hosted the 20th KOTESOL International Conference (Korea Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages International Conference) for two days at the 100 Year Anniversary Building. Approximately 1500 participants associated with English language education from leading institutions such as the Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, and US Embassy attended the conference

Our university president, Dr. Sun Hye Hwang, offered a congratulatory message on the 20th anniversary of the conference. She mentioned the importance of English, not only as a means of simple communication, but as a means to be able to communicate culturally in the age of globalization. She stressed the need for innovative English language educational models that suited local needs and the need to train English language educational experts with a balanced view to help develop these models.

A discussion on 'Perfect Score: Methodologies, Technologies, and Communities of Practice' was the main agenda for this conference. Approximately 200 lectures and corporate promotional sessions were held over 2 days.

Our head professor of Sookmyung TESOL, Dr. Kyung Sook Yeom, held a special lecture on "Leadership and Quality in ELT organization." Professors Tom Randolph, Kenneth Moore, William A. Rago, Nevin Liddy of the Sookmyung TESOL team supplied the audience with useful information regarding the subject.

Our university has been hosting this conference since 2004. We have held a leading role in English language education and this conference has become a mecca for many English language educators and experts. The significance of this conference has only been magnified on its 20th anniversary.
