'Sheds new light on Choi Seung Hee,' The Research Institute of Asian Women held a symposium

This symposium was held to evaluate Choi Seung Hee, the modern world dancer and alumini of our school, in various perspectives and to study. For this events, every top leading authority of Choi Seung Hee researchers attended and had a discussion on her life and career. Prior to the symposium, director of The Research Institute of Asian Women read opening speech. Following to the opening speech, President Hwang delivered a congratulatory message and Ha Jeong Woong, the hononary director of Gwangju Museum of Art who donated materials related to Choi, delivered the keynote address.

 

 

Jang Gwang-Yeol, the famous dance critic and professor of Korea National University of Arts presided over a ceremony and the first session went on analyzing how her dance influenced globally. On the second session, there was a discussion with the topic of 'Looking through Choi in feminine perspective'. Lecturer Lee Young Ran and Kim Chae Won, the professor of Hanyang University, (also known as the best scholar in the field related to Choi Seung Hee), and other 4 professors prepared a presentation of Choi. An Byeong Ju, a professor of KyungHee University, with other five Proferssors participated as panels. 

The second session was a time to shed light on Choi Seung Hee, an icon of the first korean wave, through various video clips and other materials.

 

 

On October 5th, our university received materials related to Choi from Ha Jeong Woong and Baek Hong Cheon(the president of Dance Research Institute), keeping them in Sookmyung Heritage Hall and The Research Institute of Asian Women. These materials will be used for further research and study. President Hwang noted that she will put effort to restore Choi's life and art in order to celebrate 101 years of her birth and all the remarkable success that she had achieved.

 

 

There was also a photo exhibition hosted at Sookmyung Heritage hall. Her life stories of traveling around the world and rare articles were shown in Renaissance plaza gallery from October 30th to November 2nd.
