SM Global 'I' Promise Vision Proclamation and 107th University Foundation Anniversary Ceremony

The SM Global 'I' Promise Vision Proclamation was held at Samsung Convention Center, located at the 2nd floor of the University's Centennial Hall at 11 am on May 21st.
The University's new vision and goals were announced at the ceremony of the university's 107th anniversary.The specific development strategy, prepared for the past 9 months since the appointment of President Hwang Sun-Hye, was finally revealed.The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Board of the Trustees, Sohn Byung-doo, and many professors and employees, students, alumni and special guests, including foreign ambassadors. More than 250 people have witnessed the grand ceremony.
The vision proclamation started at 11 a.m. with a special video introducing the history of the university. Then, President Hwang gave a full presentation to introduce the vision of 'Sookmyung, U of Inspiring Leadership' and the goal of 'Fostering Global Leaders with Personal Integrity and Creative Intelligence'
The philosophy and core value of Sookmyung since its foundation -- Virtue, Wisdom, Fairness--, now presented as <'I' Promise>, were also announced. It was redefined as Personal Integrity, Creative Intelligence and Leading Inspiration.
Park Jong-seong, Dean of Strategy & Planning, then took over stage after microphone over from President Hwang and introduced a set of the core strategies to be pursued by the university in the future. The university will consecutively implement innovative projects, starting with a smart green campus project using mobile devices, and continuing with customized international exchange program for all the departments, a new establishment of created College of Engineering, and the Residential College called 'Sookmyung Royal Residence'.
New strategic plans are as follows ; innovation in education, research and re-evaluation infrastructure, and develop specialized leadership programs to support a physical strength by issuing Sookmyung Leadership Certificate program, and expansion of human resource training programs such as an autobiography project. Focusing on the Development Planning Committee which was formed in last April, the university is expected to receive action plans from each administrative sectors, collect the various opinions from university members during the months of June and July, and finally announce the complete strategic development plan in the upcoming month of August.
After SM Global 'I' Promise was announced, the ceremony ended with a performance by the Sookmyung student orchestra consisting of freshmen and sophomore, and a choir. At the 107th Anniversary Ceremony, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sohn Byung-doo made a congratulatory speech, President Hwang gave a commemorative speech. During the ceremony, University awarded for those professors and employees who worked at school 10, 20 & 30 years over. On her commemorative speech, President Hwang emphasized, "Sookmyung has fulfilled its task as a women's educational institute promptly responding to the needs of the times throughout modern history," and added, "We will continue to educate global leaders that contribute to society with personal integrity and creative intelligence through SM Global 'I' Promise."
