Korean Culture Institute 'Eat your spring' Event

The event, titled ‘Eat your spring,’ was part of a cultural experience program for foreign exchange students, which is held twice a semester hosted by the Korean Culture Institute. 15 foreign exchange students from various countries, such as Netherlands, Germany, Vietnam, Brunei, China and Japan, and 15 students of the Sookmyung Cultural Ambassadors have gathered at the Sunheon Gwan Department of Food and Nutrition lab, to experience Korean culinary art.


 

After observing the demonstration by the teaching assistant, foreign exchange students prepared gimbap, japchae, gogi malee and hwajeon. In particular, gogi malee and hwajeon, which are usually difficult to encounter, were very popular between the exchange students. After 4 hours of culinary class and personally cooking each dish, they went on a picnic, with the prepared food, to Yongsan Family Park.


 

The foreign exchange students paired up with the students of Sookmyung Cultural Ambassadors and enjoyed the warm spring sun, while enjoying recreational activities such as, group jump rope, sticker game, card flip and paired running, while spending valuable time experiencing Korean food and culture. A Korean Cultural Institute official stated “We have prepared this event with the purpose to provide an opportunity to create vitality and memories of studying abroad.”
