The Asian Women's Research Institute 'My Life in Korea' Contest

Jalbuu Ganchimeg, from Mongolia won the Grand Prize. Nam hye won(Vietnam), Vivian E. Perez(Philippines), and 31 other winners enjoyed the 2 hour ceremony, which included a multi-cultural family centered performance.

 

Asian Women's Research Institute director Mi Gyung Sung(Food & Nutrition) gave the welcoming speech, President Sun Hye Hwang and chairman Taek Myung Kwon(KEB Sharing Foundation) each gave congratulatory messages.

 

 

The families of the winners also attended the ceremony. Bok sil Lee(Ministry of Gender Equality and Family), Felicitas Q. Bay(Philippines Embassy), Un A Lee(Asean-Korea Centre Culture and Tourism Unit), Yeon Hwa Kim(Kimpo healthy family support center), Keum Hee Lee(announce for KBS), and last year's grand prize winner Gallina Kim(Kazakhstan) sent congratulatory messages through video.

 

The person responsible for the event Bo Young Jun(researcher at the Asian Women's Research Institute) explained, "The pieces written for this event will become a part of history. In the distant future, when people discuss changes in Korea, the essays on 'My Life in Korea' will hold a historical significance.

 

 

The Asian Women's Research Institute has shown a keen interest in female marriage immigrants and has planned and run a variety of projects to offer opportunities for communication with these women. This project began in 2007 with contest. In 2008, with the sponsorship of KEB, it has become the contest.

 

 

Director Sung stated, "We think that this event is significant because it offers a place where different cultures can be expressed freely. Our institute will continue to work with the marriage immigrant women until they are all happy."
