SISS is the international program through which Sookmyung students earn credits during the vacation sessions while listening to lectures by native English speakers at our sister universities. This year also Sookmyung is running two SISS programs, and from June 25th to July 20th SISS arranged for faculties at universities such as American University, Stanford, University of Missouri, Mount Holyoke College, etc. to provide high-quality lectures on international politics, global leadership for women, global economics, and so on.

Lipka Jamie of American University, after attending SSIS classes and participating in the international exchange team internship, said, “I made up my mind to come to Sookmyung to study in Korea because I heard about Sookmyung’s good reputation and its quality education programs.” Pitman Leslie of the University of South Carolina commented, “I handle the administrative work to send our students to other sister universities, and I wanted to learn how this is done at other universities, so I applied to Sookmyung. The contents of the program are wonderful and the people here are supportive, so I’m satisfied.”

In addition to SISS, Sookmyung has many other global programs. According to Sookmyung’s global specialization strategy, each student now has to study for at least one semester in another country. Many have traveled to China, America, Switzerland, and Japan, among other countries this summer vacation while students with superior grades were sent to Stanford and Berkeley for Summer School through the Sookmyung Global Honors Program, which sends honors students to prestigious universities in America. The 20 teams visiting Sookmyung from abroad, chosen last September according to their majors, are enjoying the summer after a year of preparation and anticipation. To better understand the roles of international organizations and heighten their perspective on global issues, other students are benefitting from internships and programs such as one in which the UN headquarters sends students to New York and Geneva.
